Burpee Challenge – Day 1

Methinks There’s Been Some Cherry Pickin’ Goin’ On
Our busiest days for weeks, even months, has been Mondays. Interestingly enough, this past Monday was pretty dead. Now, I would have assumed that people would have been chomping at the bit to get into the box after a week of getting stuck in the snow and stuffing themselves with pumpkin pie (paleo or not). Apparently the fear of burpees transcends all. A few of you actually admitted that you skipped because of burpees and I even heard some regrets of that decision. We programmed the burpees for 2 reasons. One was quite clear, it was on the website – “consider this your pretest”. We are about to start a burpee challenge and what better way to determine how that challenge impacts your ability to do burpees. Skipping this WOD is like skipping the prelims for any other challenge. How can you know how far you have gone if you don’t know where you started?
The other reason was to reinforce that as CrossFitters, you must be prepared for anything, and that you CAN accomplish anything. This is one of those WODs that people look at and quicky remark “No f’ing way!” The reality is that each and every one of us is capable to doing this WOD. Not only are we capable of doing it, but we’re capable of knocking it out of the park. These kinds of WODs do a tremendous amount for building self confidence as well as fitness. So, the next time this WOD or one that looks equally as menacing appears on the website, will you come in and face your demons head-on or will you cherry pick?
Strong work to those who came and conquered. Also, a big kudos to Jenny and Nick H. who showed up for their very first group WOD on Monday and cranked out a ton o’burpees!!Read more
