Don’t Overthink It

It’s not too much of a stretch to say that many of the movements we teach at Kitsap CrossFit are complex. These movements can be unbelievably frustrating to learn and can take hundreds or even thousands of reps before you start to feel really proficient at them. While these movements are indeed complex, one of the biggest mistakes people make is overthinking them. Sage Burgener, of CrossFit Invictus and a coach for the CrossFit Olympic Lifting Certification has a great post on this entitled Paralysis by Analysis.  Her suggestion of focusing on the one clue that helps tie things together for you is excellent.  I’m a big fan of the K.I.S.S. principle (Keep It Simple Stupid).  Whatever it takes to help you understand a movement, I’m for it.  Simplicity is a good thing, overthinking is a bad thing.

  • I lovingly refer to this as “Insane in the Membrane”

  • Going to give this one a shot Thursday in the garage after I get home from duty, unless of course, you guys post up another total suckfest and I can do it over at the KCF, instead. I enjoy the feeling of completing the nasty WODs like this. Huge props to whoever came up with this one!

  • Don’t call that WOD “nightmare”, call it “shithead”. Isn’t that a movie quote or something? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079367/quotes?qt0271109 Oh, guess I screwed that up.

  • Or we could name it “nightmare”

  • 13:25 rx, we could name it ‘The Wake’

  • My fault for not specifying “power” cleans…ooops! That was definitely a killer and I finished in 18:47 Rx’d. Now I need a nap:)

  • This WOD took a surprising and nasty twist…I’ll need to be more specific next time :) Ouch, this was a killer, I think we have a challenger to “The Widow Maker”. I finished in 13:38 Rx’d. Halfway through I was sure I’d still be going after it well into 15 minutes. I think this one might need a name.

  • Had to make some substitutions: 30-20-10 Kettlebell Clean and Jerks (30#) and Burpee Pullups. Capt Seidl – 9:34, LCpl Davis, J – 9:44
Picking up more fans every day on base.
