Kitsap CrossFit Athlete Profile – Brandi (Plank Owner, Coach in Training)

Name: Brandi Exarhos 
Age: 37
Occupation: Legalized drug pusher (and educator) for Eli Lilly
First CrossFit WOD: May 2009 at OCF during a visit with Amy & Dan. We did a few, but the one I remember had to do with rolling a pair of dice and doing the corresponding exercises as a team. I was partnered with Amy, and for some reason, I kept rolling box jumps and medicine ball cleans. When I got back home to WA, I could barely walk down the stairs.
First thought after First CrossFit WOD: This is exactly what has been missing from my life!
Before CrossFit I did: Gymnastics, soccer and tennis (back in the day). Most recently, distance running and the typical 45-60 minutes of light weightlifting, cardio and sit-ups in the box gym 3-5 days a week.
Favorite CrossFit exercise/WOD: Cindy and FGB are my favorites so far.
Least favorite CrossFit exercise/WOD: Anything that includes wall balls or rowing!
I love Kitsap CrossFit because: The people are second to none! KCF is my family, and I absolutely love and respect everyone who has made this community what it is. My kids look forward to coming every day, and I feel so blessed to have such great role models for them.
Most surprising/exciting accomplishment: I can finally do 20 DUs (Double unders) in a row
Short Term Goals: Getting a muscle-up, mastering those DUs and butterfly pull-ups
Long Term Goals: Compete in the Crossfit Games 2011 WA sectionals, get my parents to take a sip of the Kool-Aid, hit WODs with my kids for years to come
Hobbies: Reading, family, traveling
Favorite food: Mediterranean
Freestyle (Share something we haven’t covered): I have found that a new passion of mine is nutrition. During work meetings with medical providers, I find myself getting into deep discussions about diabetes, obesity and diet when I should be talking about mood disorders. So many of our society’s health problems are preventable, and I feel obligated to share the information I have learned with anyone who will listen.

(Editor’s note: Brandi has been a total devotee to our program since even before we got our doors open. Truth be told, we go way back to our college days back at the University of Wisconsin. We are great friends and our bond has been strengthened through this great thing called CrossFit. Her entire family is a huge asset to our community and we are so delighted to have them with us. Brandi is going to make an excellent coach and will soon be heading up our CrossFit Kids Program which will launch this summer. Keep your eyes peeled for it.)

  • Ellen – Ah ha! Cade is on the east coast so he’s got an excuse. I’m here but work east coast time so I get up EARLY! By the time I get to the 6am WOD, I’ve already worked for a few hours, done laundry, eaten a full breakfast, etc… only downside is that I go to bed really, really, really early. :) You’ll never find me checking out the WOD on the website the night before (I can’t stay up that late!). :)

  • I met Brandi at my 2nd fundamental and what a kick. She helped me feel relaxed while I was killing myself (No special thanks to Dan for that! ;p)! Looking forward to seeing what Brandi can dish out when she becomes Coach!

  • Brandi is awesome (even if she is a legalized drug pusher). :) I think the butterfly pull-ups will be here shortly… she’ll be passing X’s 50 reps very soon.
