The Cost of a Paleo Diet

Caroline forwarded us a message from a friend of hers the other day regarding the cost of going Paleo.  There is no doubt that increased consumption of fresh meats, vegetables, fruits, nuts and nut concoctions comes with a bit of a heavy price tag.  So, if increased grocery cost is not in your budget, what do you do?

The day after this was brought up I happened upon an article written by creator of the Coconut Orange Cake with Coconut Oil Frosting (remember the yummy cake Emily made???) entitled,   The Cost of a Nourishing Diet: A Follow Up to Going Grain-Free.  Pay particular attention to the graph showing how when we spend less on food, health care costs rise dramatically.  We are in a pay now or pay later situtation with food.  Understanding that we can’t pull money out of the sky in order to cut future costs, she wrote The Cost of a Nourishing Diet: What is Optimal vs. What is Reality?  She breaks down how to have this lifestyle into optimal, reality and compromise.  She provides some insights on how to prioritize for your situation.

What things might you be willing to sacrifice in order to afford higher quality food for your family?

  • Brandi, I know, right?!?! Until I joined Kitsap Crossfit, I never left my house (seriously) much less drove to Silverdale. Sad but true.

  • Team Good To The Bone (Emily and Caroline) rocked out 24 rounds. Emily also ROCKED solid kipping pull-ups!!!! No more band for her! Ahhhh snap!!!! For me, I’m really getting pi$$ed with these girlie hands of mine. Another bleeding ripping moment on the bar for me. Hurts like heck and I thought I was going to die when shampoo got in it. Why are my hands so tender?!?!

Love the post today too! In an effort to support our Paleo lifestyle, I left KCF and joined Costco… I left that store with my body weight in meat and nuts. ;) Also, I agree with the article that states increasing your budget on good food now saves you in health costs later. Since going Paleo, just having Steven off of migraine and heartburn meds is saving us a lot!
