Is CrossFit a contact sport?
by Amy Hollingsworth
Imagine you walk into a large globo gym, approach a big guy trying to eak out his last 5 reps of a heavy bench press, and you say “Come on man, you can do it!! Push!! Dig deep, you’ve got it!!!” Do you think he might think you’re crazy? How about when you tell him what you ate for dinner last night or share with him that your glutes have never been so sore since that ridiculous overhead lunge death march??? He may at this point complain to the management.
We believe CrossFit is a contact sport. Your contact begins when you first walk through the door – you are connnecting with people by inquiring how their weekend went, asking if their kids are feeling better, or even sharing recipes for a super yummy Paleo apple crisp. Your contact continues as you are helping people push themselves to achieve things they never thought possible. You are sharing in their momentary misery as their arms fail during the last few push-ups. You are throwing out high fives and pats on the back. You are learning, then sharing – helping others find the depth of their squat or letting them know they need to get up just a bit higher for their chins to clear the bar. You are involved in the greatest contact sport there is because you CrossFit.

11:28. I improved on my baseline by almost 30 seconds and felt not as bad as after my baseline.
13min… and 9 sec? I can’t remember. At first, I was disappointed when looking at my baseline time (6 min)… then I remembered that most of these push ups were on my feet (not on my knees as in the baseline) and I used the blue band for the pull ups (as opposed to green or gray). Not so bad after all!

Jeff – try it with Danny and report back!! Gonzo – come visit!!
We could see how much load you can OHS while getting a 20lb medball thrown in your face
This post is spot on!! I feel this is one of the major points that sets CrossFit apart from any other body of fitness- our community. Along with great coaching this is the most critical aspect in training in reaching our physical potential.
I saw the title and I immediately imagined Jeff and Laura throwing medicine balls at us as we overhead squat.
I’m currently spending a week in Mobile, Alabama training some Marines. I had the opportunity to meet and workout with the guys at Crossfit Mobile. It is exactly how your write it… The Crossfit community is amazing.
